As many of us already know, the bananas are going extinct. And so we should be looking for some variety of alternative banana.
Man, do I have a suggestion for you. I tried a Manzano banana today. These fruits are small, about a third the size of a typical Cavendish banana found in your supermarket. They have a smooth, creamy flavor, not at all mealy like the Cavendish; and their flavor is clearer and sweeter than the banana you may be familiar with. They have a hint of pear about them.
These are a bit smaller than the bananas we ate in the Phillipine Islands when I was younger, but have every bit of the divine flavor I have been missing all these years. I vote we make the switch to all-Manzano all the time absolutely as soon as possible.

I'm with you. I can't eat Cavendish bananas without gagging. They are too starchy, too gummy, altogether horrid. I remember liking bananas as a child; must be I was a Gros Michel fan. I am only sorry it took me almost my entire time in the Philippines before I tried those luscious little bananas. I was just too convinced that I hated bananas!
I will have them again soon, in Thailand, and also lanzones, called lemuli there. Too bad they don't keep well enough to ship, only a few days after picking.
