Andrea's Basic Brownies
Posted by andrea on May 20, 1999 10:52 PM

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:
*1 stick (8 Tbsp) butter, softened
* 1 cup sugar
* 2 eggs
* 1 tsp vanilla extract
* 1/2 cup flour
* 2 squares baking chocolate

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 and lightly grease 9x9 baking pan. In mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. When the consistency is even throughout, add eggs and vanilla, mix, then add the flour gradually. Melt the chocolate over very low heat, then either add to the mixture a tiny bit at a time, stirring frequently, or get an assistant to pour the melted chocolate in while you beat the mixture. Failure to mix the chocolate in quickly enough can result in prematurely cooked eggs, and a rubbery, non-yummy brownie. Beat the final batter until it is glossy and smooth. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 35 minutes.

To spice up this recipe, add orange zest, Grand Mariner, nuts, chocolate chips, or whatever other item seems tasty. Brownies can also be frosted or dusted with powdered sugar.
